There are a variety of unique events held in the Warrumbungle Region throughout the year. From celebrating the region's love of astronomy to hosting concerts in some of Australia's most stunning scenery, you will find everything from 150 year old horse events to bush poetry celebrations. The Warrumbungle Region really has an event for everyone.

DUNEDOO GARDEN TOUR Enjoy a day out touring Dunedoo’s most beautiful gardens. Other entertainment includes guest speakers, garden demonstrations, and musical entertainment. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are available and buses are welcome. The event is held bi-annually (alternate years Coolah).
The next Dunedoo Garden Tour will be held in October 2009.

WARRUMBUNGLE FESTIVAL OF THE STARS Celebrate the Warrumbungle Region’s passion for astronomy and the arts as they celebrate the local community and the wonders of the night sky during this 10 day festival. Activities include the Coolah Spring Garden Festival, Cake Decorators Demonstration Day, 2nd Warrumbungle Arts Expo in conjunction with the Annual Warrumbungle Arts and Crafts Inc Exhibition, Art Unlimited, Science in the Pub (featuring Fred Watson), Apex Billy Cart Derby, Townlife Markets, Open Day at Siding Spring Observatory, The Bok Lecture (featuring Professor Harvey Butcher) and the Coonabarabran Cup.

WARRUMBUNGLE ARTS & CRAFT EXHIBITION AND ARTS EXPO The Warrumbungle Arts and Craft Exhibition is a wonderful reflection of the wealth of artistic talent in the region which is hotly contested especially amongst entries for the Warrumbungle Shire Award Prize.
The Warrumbunlge Arts Expo runs in conjunction with the Exhibition and is a showcase of the region's artists including demonstrations, workshops, stalls and much more!

OPEN DAY AT SIDING SPRING OBSERVATORY For one day a year, Siding Spring Observatory opens its telescopes to the public for a free exclusive peak behind the scenes. You are invited to meet the astronomers and learn how they explore the Universe at Australia’s largest astronomy research facility. Make it a fun family day out and enjoy a BBQ and refreshments.

COONABARABRAN CUP A spring racing carnival with a jam packed program of racing, fashion in the field, TAB, champagne and entertainment marquees, plus children's entertainment. The perfect package for a great day at the races!
On the day before the Cup, the Coonabarabran Jockey club hold a welcome BBQ and a calcutta at the Coonabarabran Bowling Club.

COOLAH SPRING GARDEN FESTIVAL Held bi-annually, (alternate years Dunedoo) the festival showcases some of the finest gardens within the Coolah District. The festival also includes displays and demonstrations, stalls, local arts and crafts and guest speakers.

VETERANS TOUCH FOOTY CARNIVAL A great weekend of touch footy comps and town entertainment, attracting teams from all over NSW. To enter, players must be over 30 years of age. After a great day of competitions, join the party atmosphere on Saturday night with all hotels and clubs providing live entertainment. Top division winners receive a t-shirt with a play off for a cash prize.

CROOKED MOUNTAIN CONCERT A spectacular concert held in the stunning Canyon Picnic Area. Concert goers arrive early to stake their spot, renew acquaintances, check out the food and wine stalls and then kick back to enjoy an evening of great fun.
Past artists have included Kate Ceberano in 2007 and James Reign, Felicity Urquart and Adam Rennie in 2008.

FLIX IN THE STIX If kicking back and watching a movie is more your style while visiting Coonabarabran, then see what’s playing at Flix in the Stix (Coonabarabran Community Cinema). BINNAWAY RACES Great country horse meet held at the Binnaway Racecourse. Racing starts mid morning with fashions in the field competition held later in the day. There is also a live band at the Exchange Hotel in the evening.

Autumn

MARCH

DUNEDOO BUSH POETRY FESTIVAL 2009 Event date: 5th March - 8th March
The Dunedoo Bush Poetry Festival is three days of Bush Poetry Competitions, Street Theatre, Puppetry, music, Market Stalls and comedy entertainment. Something for everyone of all ages! Anyone can have a go in this supportive environment so join in the fun over the weekend!
The Festival starts on Thursday night (March 5th) with a Meet and Greet at the Caravan Park. A BBQ will be available along with entertainment provided by the local Sing Australia Group. 
On Friday (March 6th) there is a bus tour of the local area with commentary from the locals. Bookings are essential. The Poetry Competition begins on Friday at the Central School hall with junior sections for primary and secondary students.  
Friday night is Yarns Telling at the Golf Club. There is a $250 prize for the best yarn not told before at the Dunedoo Festival.
The Saturday morning markets will include interesting demonstrations and with early Australian music adding atmosphere.
The Saturday competition sections include novice, classical, original and contemporary. Each section has its own prize money with $200 each for the champion male and female poet.
On Saturday night, Milton Taylor and Lennie Knight will be the guest artists along with a medley of poets.
To finish the Festival, enjoy a Poet's Breakfast and Brawl from 8am at Lions Milling Park.

COOLAH JAZZ IN THE TOPS A great weekend of swinging jazz music set in the midst of the stunning Coolah Tops National Park. The main event is held in Coolah Tops National Park on the Saturday night with other events around Coolah on Friday night and Sunday. Check out www.jazzinthetops.com.au.
The next Jazz in the Tops will be held on the second weekend in March 2010.

Discover nature's classroom on Discovery Ranger guided walks, talks and tours in the Warrumbungle National Park. Discovery Programs operate during autumn, winter and spring school holidays. Bookings are essential for activities so contact the Warrumbungle National Park Visitors Centre .

NORTH WEST EQUESTRIAN EXPO The North-West Equestrian Expo has evolved over the past 20 years into the largest High School Equestrian Event in NSW. Over 100 schools and 500 riders compete in this four day event which challenges horse and riders alike.
